The Beer Academy was established in 2003 by a small group of industry and beer experts to improve the appreciation and knowledge of beer; it quickly attracted support from over 50 brewing companies as well as beer retailers, trade associations and consumer groups. The Beer Academy has become the UK body recognised as delivering the industry standard for the training and education regarding all aspects of beer. The Beer Academy is supported by the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD), Cask Marque and the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) as well as working with a number of other trade organisations. All these bodies recognise the extraordinary value and benefits that the Beer Academy can bring to the trade and the vital role that they can achieve in promoting Beer across the nation.

The Beer Academy delivers a range of insightful programmes through a group of expert tutors. The variety of courses means that there is something relevant to everyone whether involved directly in the trade or as an interested consumer.

Courses include the one day Foundation Course, developed for those who work in the industry. This has proved incredibly successful, not only as a means of providing induction training for new starters but also as a course for those in the industry who may have received no formal training about the product which they are selling or retailing A one-day course includes taste training; beer and food matching; beer presentation and quality; beer styles and beer and society. Course tutors are experienced Master Brewers with unrivalled knowledge and a passion for beer! The course is supported by a comprehensive set of learning notes and an optional multiple choice examination to test the level of knowledge acquired and to accredit the candidates.
